Improving the mind/body connection

Brain In Balance offers a natural alternative treatment to improve general functioning of the brain by strengthening, calming & improving its stability & flexibility. We do this by working with you with the techniques of Neurofeedback, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and/or HeartMath.

Neurofeedback enhances attention, focus, concentration, memory & benefits hyperactivity issues, relaxation as well as performance. By monitoring your brain waves via EEG technology, immediate feedback is provided to your brain through visual stimulation. When observing your brain wave activity, in real time on advanced computerized equipment, you can see what’s happening to your brain as your state & awareness changes. For organic brain disorders, it is a matter of getting the brain to function better rather than curing the condition. Gains in treatment can be applied to school, work, artistic pursuits & competitive athletic performance. It is a safe, non-invasive, drug free intervention with beneficial long term effects.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) offers you the opportunity to examine and challenge patterns of thinking and behaving & feelings that are getting in your way of the life you want. CBT has been evaluated to work well with a variety of problems. It is collaborative, educational and short-term and involves structure to reduce your current symptoms and improve your functioning. Along with the educational component of the approach, you will be asked to engage in homework between sessions, applying what you learned during the session to your life outside of therapy. Remember, there are 168 hours in the week, only one of which is spent with me in therapy.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) can assist you in decreasing or eliminating distress from charged memories and/or beliefs. It is an eight phase approach to psychotherapy that is internationally recognized as an empirically supported treatment when provided by a clinician who has completed an EMDRIA approved basic training in EMDR (www.emdria.org). It enables you to access positive ways of reframing the original trauma and to release the body’s stored negative emotional charges around it.

HeartMath focuses on the connection between the brain and heart. Although we often think of our emotions as originating in the brain, research has shown that emotions are produced by the brain & body working together. The vagas nerve sends information from the heart to the brain and back. In this way, the heart and the brain talk to each other. When you learn to belly breath and combine that with harmonious and positive thoughts as you envision breathing through your heart and generate a positive feeling, you can change the signals the heart sends to the brain, influencing the brain’s perception and improving how you feel.
